Graphics card question?

I am in the market for a new computer. I need it allot for school use, but also enjoy playing games, photo editing with cs4, and of course movies, and music. Right now I am torn between to computers 1 is the FX edition laptop from gateway (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp? %26lt;- link to best buy the other is the HP Pavilion Elite (http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigat %26lt; link to sams club

which machine would you recommend? I do know how to change video cards and could always up grade the hp later. And I don't necessarily need portability of the laptop but it would be nice. Blueray isn't all too important to me but DL dvd is, along with disc labeling. Welp lets see what you people think!Graphics card question?
Hmmm.. your Best Buy link doesn't work- searching for Gateway FX yields one match- costing $1149.99

The desktop is more upgradeable and a better long-term choice- no question. But right out of the box, the Gateway FX series laptop is a better performer. That Geforce 9800M GTS is about the best video adapter you'll ever find on a notebook/laptop computer.Graphics card question?
build a desktop. the laptop is really only if you need the portability.

but dont buy a desktop really its a dumb move as a consumer. building a pc is wicked easy. i reccomend going to www.newegg.com. youll build a better pc (better quality) for cheaper.

i have a desktop on newegg thats the same price as the sams club except a much much better quality pc, with a blu-ray player, dvd burner with label, 28'; LCD monitor, an actual good gpu (hd4850),abn amazing case and psu, and all good parts.
Installing a graphics is actually pretty straight forward. I've shown people how to do it and they're reaction is usually along the ';really you can just drop it in there?';
the laptop is by far the best pc still thw i wudnt go from it thw have a look at this make yur own pc --- http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/
