Can i change the graphic card of this computer? And how can i put it in?

I just bought call of duty 4 and it doesnt work. Once i downloaded it, i realized that i dont have all the requirements. I want to know if i could change the graphic card of this computer. the computer type is at the bottom of the question. When i try to play it, this pop up shows up

This is my computer type. It is Toshiba Satellite M40/M45 SeriesCan i change the graphic card of this computer? And how can i put it in?
Sorry.

Call of Duty 4 is a VERY graphics intense game.

You will not be able to play it in that laptop, and you cannot upgrade the graphics.

If you still want to play the newest games in a laptop, then get one designed for gaming like this:

http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-xpsCan i change the graphic card of this computer? And how can i put it in?
Sounds like a laptop. If it is, you can't.
Sadly no... until recently there have been almost exactly zero laptops that have upgradeable video cards, and even now it is only possible on high end ones.
Go to the video card manufacturer site, Windows Update (choose Custom) or http://www.driverguide.com and see if there is an updated driver for the card. Most games do not run with 16 bit video.

If the driver does not help, visit the Toshiba website to see upgrade options.

    Some easy steps to try:

Download and install the latest drivers from Nvidia, make sure to uninstall existing ones first.

Make sure under Power Settings that system is set to Performance or to Always On and try again.

Video BIOS really shouldn't cause a problem.

Check your system BIOS at start up that nothing is hampering performance.

Also run a monitoring tool like HWMonitor to see if you system isn't over heating, some systems cut back performance if the graphics cards are overheating.

Use a tool like Rivatuner, to make sure the performance of the Core and Memory match those listed on the web and haven't been somehow reduced.Plz guys help me with my video card 9600gt problem...?
    Sorry to hear that.

Can you check photo's on the web of the product against the one you have?

Also there is a tool that allows you to modify a Nvidia bios, http://www.softpedia.com/get/T

Since it's already broken you could tinker with this tool.

after reading your question the first time, i almost blew it off see that the other guy mostly answered you well enough, but then i read your question a second time and saw that it never said that you replaced your older card only that you added a new card. so if you are running sli or crossfire, it makes since that the card is running slow.

My Sony Vaio Laptop (VGN-NR330E) has a Mobile Intel (R) 965 Express Family Chipset. I know it is not powerful enough to play GTA IV. But is there any way I can play without upgrading my video card? If not, how can I change my video card to a one that supports playing GTA IV. And, what kind of video card do you recommend. (would external video cards help?)Can I play GTA IV with my laptop?
I play GTA IV on that video chipset without a problem, although I have slightly more RAM and a better processor.

I've never had an issue. Can I play GTA IV with my laptop?
I wouldn't think you'd be able to. I would recommend getting a NVIDIA graphics card. I would also want to try and get a good amount of ram and a good processor.
well well, i have played gta iv on laptop, but that was with radeon hd 512 mb 3d card, so your current card would burn when playing this game, what you can do is an external 3d card, thats the only solution, keep in mind get a min pixel shader 4 and min 512 mb 3d card

may b the ram is less on your ibook...tht's y it buffers less and vdo becomes slow because it's not buffered fully...How do I speed up videos when I run them with Firefox?
It looks like the processor (CPU) speed and RAM are not sufficient to play resource-intensive flash videos.

I would experiment with other browsers (e.g. Opera, Safari); update flash player; upgrade RAM as suggested before.

It might also be wise to quite all other applications that are running (Apple+Tab shows running applications and allows fast switching between them).

Whenever possible, another 'solution' would be to download the video if possible and play it with VLC player [1], which seems to use less resources than the player plug-in within the browser.

Unfortunately all these steps might not be enough :(

    Video card upgrade and resolution?

I have a Intel庐 Desktop Board D845PESV motherboard. I want to upgrade my video card(nivida Geforce Fx 5200).

My motherboard states that it supports AGP video format and says it supports a PCI video adpater as well. Does that

mean I can buy a PCI video card? It says this on the form:

How do I designate an add-in PCI video adapter as my primary video adapter?

The primary video adapter can be changed from the onboard AGP to an add-in PCI adapter through the BIOS Setup Utility.

The setting is located in the Advanced screen under Video Configuration.

The reason I want to upgrade my video card is I have two 22inch monitors set up on a dual video card(geforce fx 5200)

and one is running at a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and the other one at 1600 x 1024, I want both to run at 1680 x 1050 but

can't get the second monitor to offer the resolution of 1680 x 1050. I updated my nvidia driver but that did nothing.

Is there something wrong with my video card? Do I have to upgrade my video card? If I upgrade my video card will my

dual monitors be able to run a 1680 x 1050 each at the same time?Video card upgrade and resolution?
There is a lot of potential for driver conflicts and other such issues when you add a PCI video card to an AGP setup. I would avoid it if possible.

Are you sure both monitors are capable of 1680x1050? Perhaps one has a lower native resolution than the other one?

If you want to buy another video card, I wouldn't bother with PCI. I would just upgrade the AGP from that old FX5200.

The highest you can go with AGP would be the ATI Radeon HD3850 AGP. It's a much more recent video card than the nVidia FX5200 (4 years more recent, in fact), and supports the latest DirectX10 and HDCP, so it is more widescreen-aware and might work better.

My computer has a problem with every single one of my graphics cards. I used to have a NVDIA GeForce MX 500 and it had this problem so i changed it to a Radeon 7000 and it still doesn't work. How can i fix this?My video card has an error code (10) and it doesn't work?
sounds like the error is with your motherboard rather than the cards, either the slot is defective or your psu can't supply enough power or some similar problem, have you disabled any onboard graphics in the bios?

I have a 7 year old computer which i added a kick *** video card?

to, but my processor is to slow. Is it easy and how expensive is it to change one out. Or is it better to get a used computer that is only two years old. All i really use my computer for is to play games with. I have a HP pravilion 540nI have a 7 year old computer which i added a kick *** video card?
i would recommend getting a new computer, but a processor would help. you need to check what kind of processor you have. you can download a program called cpu-z, found on http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php. run it, and then look for package under the first tab. that is your processor type. you can only install that type of processor. depending on what socket it is will decide what kind of processor you can get. For example, you can only use socket 478 cpus if it says 478, LGA 775 if it says that, ect. Since your computer is older, I'm assuming its socket 478. if you play games, i'd recommend maybe a pentium 4, atleast 2GHZ. One of those might go for $40-$60. You can check how to install it on the HP website. find your model and there should be a pdf file for instructions on replacing parts. replacing the processor is fairly easy, but you must be very careful to not bend the pins. it only takes about 10 minutes.I have a 7 year old computer which i added a kick *** video card?
At 7 years old, you are going to be very limited to what processor you can put in it. I would begin looking for something newer.
The newer computer is your best bet.

It is unlikely you can do much for a 7 year old computer to improve performance. It would be far cheaper to buy a new one.
scrap it for a new one!

How do i turn my coputer into high def?

do i have to buy a high def monitor i already have an lcd monitor, upgrade to vista or change my video card? How do i turn my coputer into high def?
1- make sure you have HD monitor

2- you must have an HD capable video card. (unless your motherboard has built inn HD capability. im using nvidia 9800gtx)

3- if you're still in your cave, a VGA cable does not deliver HD display. you must connect the video card to the monitor via HDMI or DVI cable. How do i turn my coputer into high def?
Chances are your computer is already ';high def';. Computers have been ';high def'; since the 1990s.
What do you mean high def? Do you mean you want to play Blue-Ray/HD DVD content or do you mean you want to increase the screen resolution or color quality? If you want to take advantage of high definition video you are going to have to get a computer that can handle those types of calculations. Choose wisely my son.

If you just want to get the best possible picture, you just need a good video card with a higher resolution and hight color quailty.

    Monitors are already high definition. HD is really just a name to describe video with high resolution (many lines of pixels). Old standard definition TVs only had about 480 lines, but the ';HD'; standard requires a minimum of 720 lines, and the highest standard, 1080 lines. Most monitors support resolutions with 720 lines up to 1080 lines or more, so they do qualify as ';HD';

  • My dell optiplex is running with pci video driver i need to change over to agp how do i do this?

when i put the agp video card in my moniter wont come onMy dell optiplex is running with pci video driver i need to change over to agp how do i do this?
Make sure your mother board has an AGP slot on it, first off.

You have to check the compatibility of the video card with your computer. Many computers like Dell, Gateway, etc are so cheap (sometimes not so cheap) because they are not upgrade friendly. The companies want you to buy a new compouter instead of upgrade. So check to see if it is compatible with your Dell.My dell optiplex is running with pci video driver i need to change over to agp how do i do this?
Left the old pci video card in your pc. When the pc starts, press the ';DEL'; key so you enter the BIOS.

There must be some setting for the video driver, something like an option between PCI and AGP card that you can select as the preferred used by your mother board when the pc starts. Change to AGP card. Save and exit, turn off the pc, install the AGP card and power on.
There is no way you can change the video card from PCI to AGP without using a motherboard that has an AGP slot.

You need to buy a PCI Video card
lol u shouldn't even be able to fit them in the same slot

How much video card would I need for HDTV?

I have a computer hooked up to my home theater system. I'm currently using an analog TV / capture card and an ATI 9600 8X AGP video card to display the video on my TV.

If I changed the TV card to a digital / hi-def card.... How much video card would I need to smoothly display the hi-def video? Is there an 8X AGP card that would work or would I have to start over with a mainboard that has a PCI Express slot?

Thanks MUCH if anybody knows...How much video card would I need for HDTV?
You could get a Radeon 2400HD. It's reasonably priced ($100) and it's AGP 8X compable. How much video card would I need for HDTV?
My guess would be at least 128-256-512 MB because HDTV demnads more graphics i hope this helps
The Radeon 2400HD is one of the few cards that will support HDTV and is AGP compatable. Normally this stuff would be the more modern PCI-E.
Hmm this would be a perfect time to skip PCIex16 and move up straight to PCIex16 2.0 thanks to the new 780G motherboards which have the current leader in integrated graphics which are good enough for HDTV, etc!

Whats wrong with my graphics card?

    1. my gpu is a nvidia geforce go 6150. It is curently using 64 mb of memory. But total avalible memoy is 287. how come i can only put the memory up to 12.

    2. when i go to systemrequirementslab.com to see if i can run oblivion my pc fails on the gpu it says

video ram 128- you have 64mb fail

    video card acceleration- pass

    hw transform lighting pass

vertex shader requiered 2.0- you have 3.0

pixel shader requiered 2.0-you have 3.0

So i changed the video memory in bios to 128 mb but then it says

    video card acceleration- pass

    hw transform lighting pass

vertex shader requiered 2.0- you have 3.0

SO CAN I RUN OBLIVIONWhats wrong with my graphics card?
well playing oblivion on a integrated graphics adapter such as the nvidia 6150 will be painfuly slow neways. increase the vram in bios to more then 128 mb. if that still does not work there is nothing else u can do.

How do i change the settings on my camera or the memory card so videos play in Windows media player?

I have a Kodak EasyShare CX7430. When i go to watch a video that i shot it opens in QuickTime Player. I would LOVE it if I could change so the video's would open in Windows media player. How do i change the settings on my camera or the memory card so videos play in Windows media player?
In win media player go to Tools at the top%26gt;options%26gt;file types and select all file types, apply and ok. Now your movies should open in win media player.

If not you will need to go into options for quicktime and disable that file type which is .AVI

And yes win media player DOES play avi's.How do i change the settings on my camera or the memory card so videos play in Windows media player?
you could just make your windows media player your default media player. i use vlc player, but I believe any player (quicktime, wmp, vlc, etc..) can all be set as your default.

also, if you have an outdated windows media player, go download a newer version.

    Graphics card?

Ok, I have a few questions about graphics/video cards.

    1) Is it possible to change the graphics/video card in my laptop to a better, more powerful one?

    2) Can I do it myself, or should I take the laptop to a computer shop and have them do it?

    3) How much do poweful graphics/video cards cost?

    4) Can anyone give me some links to really good cards?

P.S. The new card needs to be powerful enough to run games like The Sims 2 and ALL of the expansion and stuff packs, World Of Warcraft.. etc etc. All those really high def games that need a good card.Graphics card?
1.) very few laptops have video cards that can be changed out, so most likely (95% positive) no.

    2, 3, and 4.) see above.

You don't need a brand new video card to run WoW or The sims 2. A laptop with a nvidia Geforce 8400G will run them just fine.

Changing my dell xps 420 video card from ati 2400pro to 8800gts?

i recently bought a new dell xps420 from original purchaser(computer was only 3 days used).

it has ati 2400pro in it, but it has only 128mb memory, which is not enough for me to play games.

my major game play is world of warcraft, but i only get 20-25 fps with my 20'' monitor with moderate settings.

i am upgrading the monitor to 24'' as well soon, so i decided to get a better gpu.

i found out that the stock psu is powerful enough for the new bfg geforce 8800gts(g92), and also my case is big enough to put that thing insdie.... but my question is,

should i unstall the driver which already has been installed for the ati 2400pro before i install the new card?

Since you can't upgrade the GPU, your best bet is to add RAM and spend some time optimizing. Here's a great guide for notebook owners on the latter front.

Best you can do is upgrade your RAM, shut down any non-essential applications and run the games on minimum settings.
    hi first

well all what u gonna do is to reduce the resolution from the game

and if u can incress the ram of the compuet it well be more helpful so decrise the resolution of the game from options and all well be okay

  • How can I get my ATI AGP Radeon 9800 to view in a 4:3 mode whenI select 1024x768 for a resolution?

On my Dell laptop, I can change the video settings that if I am running a typical 4:3 resolution (like 800x600 or 1024x768) I can get the screen to shape correctly on my widescreen LCD. (And I get black bars on the left and right sides of the screen)

I'm trying this at home with my ATI AGP Radeon 9800 video card with latest drivers and Catalyst Control Center, and I cant seem to get it to do this. this has nothing to do with the video card (ATI 9800 or otherwise)

this is a SCREEN setting; you can use an option in the settings of your (wide-)screen to have it stretch the signal over the whole display or to shot the black bars, on the side or around (e.g. a 1024x768 in a 1440x960 wide screen also has black above and beneath). How can I get my ATI AGP Radeon 9800 to view in a 4:3 mode whenI select 1024x768 for a resolution?
The best thing to do is use the recommended resolution for the wide screen display, otherwise you will have wasted black area. Check the manual on your monitor for the recommended resolution.

Look for the connector in the back where your monitor cable connects. If it goes into a card inserted into the motherboard, then you have an external video card. If it plugs into a section where all other connections go, then more than likely the video card is built into the motherboard.
Duuuhh. It's the card with the db15 connector(VGA) port on the back! ;-)=

Why does my computer resolution change with an HDMI cable?

When I connect my video card to my monitor it changes my computer screen and it becomes smaller. It does not fit 100% to its contents, like its not wide or tall enough, it has a black border around it almost an inch. I can go in and change my resolution settings but to make it stretch to fit the entire monitor screen I lose quality. Does anyone know how I can keep the quality of the HDMI cable and my video and still have my screen fit completely in the monitor? ThanksWhy does my computer resolution change with an HDMI cable?
Your monitor is ';mirroring'; the lower resolution of your television. What you should do is set them to ';span'; instead so they both display their own unique picture. Usually this is done by pressing F6 or F7.

    Graphic's Card Change Problem?

    Hi there.

I'm am thinking of upgrade my video card to this:

    http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component

Atm I have the nooby Intel 865G and was thinking of how to change it.

I need help on how to like take stuff out and put in. The PSUis 250W (dont ask me to buy a new one) and is that ok.

I think I should start off in device manager right?Graphic's Card Change Problem?
Go into control panel/Add remove programs and remove your old graphics card or onboard video graphics drivers. Shutdown the computer and unplug it. Take the old video card out or just install your new card and reboot the system. Now you can install your graphics drivers for the new card... After it installs it should ask to restart computer and after restarting you should be good to go...Graphic's Card Change Problem?

  • Old Pentium 3 doesn't work, how to fix this problem?

I need to find out what is wrong with this problem. The computer is Pentium 3, when I boot it up, the screen is blank with no beeps. The hard drive spins, and there is power to every device. I checked all the connections, changed the video card, the ram is 256 MB DIMM and 64 MB DIMM. I dunno what the problem is.Old Pentium 3 doesn't work, how to fix this problem?
No beeps means the BIOS crashes before, or it's not running, (or the speaker is unplugged, lol). It's either the CPU, motherboard or RAM. Try with only 1 RAM stick. Try clearing the CMOS. Check if the mobo has ';leaky'; capacitors.

It's easier to test with all device data and power cables unplugged. I've seen motherboards that won't turn on because of an upside-down IDE cable.Old Pentium 3 doesn't work, how to fix this problem?
Disconnect the flatcable going to the harddisk and the floppy drive. Either one is connected the wrong way around (pin1 on the wrong side).
Then, it's either the power supply unit, or the motherboard. The hard drive spins, but the MoBO may not be getting full power.

Test the power supply in another PC. If it works, all that's left is the MoBo.

How to share my RAM with my Video Card?

My on board video card NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE is supposed to be able to except a shared memory of 512MB from my RAM. However, the way I was told to do it (Go into BIOS and find the Graphics Apertexture and raise the amount of shared RAM) I cannot find. I go into the bios (F1 on startup)

but I can seem to find this option anywhere. Can't find anything about a video card, except where it asks, Primary video card. It had PCI marked, but I changed it to on board to see if it bring up a new box to choose how much to share. No such thing happened, and I restarted my computer to see if it needed to refresh first. Anyway, is there any other way I can share my RAM with my video card if I can't do it that way?

    Thanks for the help,

MattHow to share my RAM with my Video Card?
No, It does not seem your bios supports it either... You might have a bios update that adds it. Other than that you will have to buy a new motherboard and maybe a new proccessor to fix the motherboard you want. How to share my RAM with my Video Card?
Only the motherboard manufacturer's specs can answer that for you. There is no other way to share RAM unless the board supports it.

How do I upgrade to a 1.3 or higher video card?

I just uploaded DAZ STUDIO 3 from the Internet. It told me my computer has a GL version 1.2. How to I change to a higher version to get started with the graphics programs? Where do I go? What sites? Etc.How do I upgrade to a 1.3 or higher video card?
Opengl support comes with your video card or motherboard. Basically what you need to know is whether your motherboard/graphics card has opengl 1.3 support. You could type the name of your computer in the internet and download recent drivers if you bought your computer as a package. If you have a graphics card just type the name of that in and download the more recent drivers for it. If its really old, it wont have opengl 1.3 support and I would recommend getting a new graphics card. www.geeks.com sells them for cheap, you have to know whether you need a agp or pci express graphics card though. If your computer doesnt support either than you might have to go with a regular pci card.

Possible to add more Video RAM for usage?

I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop. Dual Core AMD with 2GB RAM. Everything about is great except one thing: the video card's RAM.

These are my technical specs of the card I have on my laptop:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v30/Me

Is there ANY way to allocate more Video RAM to my laptop? I read someplaces that it's possible to double it through the BIOS. Will it work for this laptop? How do I do it? If not, any idea if this laptop has a spot where I can change/add a video card? Thanks.Possible to add more Video RAM for usage?
That's only really possible if your laptop's video card actually shares ram with the system. Many computers with S3 cards have shard VRAM. Vista allocates RAM to the video cards to enhance performance, the only negative is that it takes from system RAM. Now days many manufacturers have been selling Video Cards for laptops. This is because the use of PCI- Express in laptops is becoming more popular than integrated. My Sony Vaio had a GeForce Go 7400, I went to the Sony website and then I went to support. I asked if there were any video card upgrades for my pc, there was. It was a GeForce Go 7900 (I think, maybe 7600). Just check with HP for a Video Card upgrade for your laptop. But for reassurance, HP has been well known for using video cards that use ';Shared'; RAM. Hope this helps!Possible to add more Video RAM for usage?
There's nothing like Video RAM. You mean graphics card? Graphic Cards (like NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600) can't be added post purchase.

Graphics cards are not available with USB ports etc so you cant add them externally either.

I belive your model has a NVIDIA graphics card with decent dedicated and shared memory.

Conventional RAM can be increased further, but since you already have 2GB (probably 2 x 1GB layout) I doubt that can be increased any further in your case.
You cant add RAM to a video card and it would be pointless anyway, when you can just buy a better video card. But keep in mind your computers processor may not handle a better video card. Or its motherboard.

  • My monitor keeps losing signal, is my video card going bad?

I have an nVidia geForce 6800LE (128) graphics card. The monitor is brand new because I thought initially it was the monitor and replaced it. I know how salty a new video card can be, is it possible to change the setting to speed up the capabilities of the v card? Would it correct the problem or make it worse? (And no I don't know how to over-clock the video card) Could it be anything else?My monitor keeps losing signal, is my video card going bad?
First Check the power cables going to your monitor sometimes where it plugs into the monitor doesn't make a good conection there. Next check that the video cable is screwed into the video card, this connection gets loose also. Make sure the card is seated in the slot in the motherboard tightly. You can also make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card at Http://www.dvidia.com

if these are ok then try another monitor and see if it does the same thing, if it does then it is probably the card, if the diffrent monitor acts ok then you need to have the monitor that blanks out checked.

Changing the video cards refresh rate probably won't fix it, but if you try don't go more that one step above or below where it defaults to or it may go black and stay that way. And you can not overclock the cardMy monitor keeps losing signal, is my video card going bad?
have you opened the case and made sure it was plugged in good ? have you checked its driver ? both could case the symptoms you described.

    To check the driver

How should I go about unstalling old video drivers and installing new ones?

    Hello

My new 8600GT will be here for Monday, but I've heard a lot about the importance of removing your old video drivers before installing your new ones. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I've had a lot of trouble trying to do this correctly over the years:

    1. Uninstall the drivers (Mine are Intel onboard), just form Computer%26gt;Uninstall/change programs

    2. Install the new video card

    3. Download and install the new drivers from Nvidia's site.

Is this correct? How should I go about unstalling old video drivers and installing new ones?
If you are going from an onboard to and PCIe card I wouldn't remove the old drivers. I only do this when upgrading the card in the same slot, going from an PCIe ATI card to a nVidia PCIe card. You do not need to remove the intel drivers. How should I go about unstalling old video drivers and installing new ones?
    Correct

ok, where ever you got your facts, they must have been confused with your question. you have a tricky install, but you dont need to worry about uninstalling drivers. especially when its an intigrated GC. so leave them. just make sure when you install the new gc, that you open up your boot menu through hitting f1,f2,f10 one of these when booting up. it will take you to a blue/gray screen. there should be a boot tab. go to the boot tab via arrow keys and go to graphics card area. make sure you change it to the new gc and then save and close. while you are booting up, make sure you have the gc driver cd in the cd drive. when the computer boots up the resilution will be really bad, it will prompt you to install the drives, select to install from cd just the one time. and let it do its thing. once your done it will ask you to re start comp. do so, then you should be good. just make sure when you start windows back up to check out the cd for other cool softwear it might come with. it might have a temp reading program for your gc. these could help. well i hope i didn't confuse ya too much. gl.How should I go about unstalling old video drivers and installing new ones?
    Yup!

Although that works both ways, when you update your video drivers it will just replace the old ones with new ones. Since you are not using your onboard video from what you describe, then yes remove them from the system. Install that new card and download the new drivers. Or go into ';Device Manager'; and disable the onboard video so that it doesn't conflict with your other one.
dont worry about removing the old ones. just pop in ur card and it takes over on board video. once it loads your desktop u may have a different resolution and it will lag if u drag windows or scroll. that is perfectly normal. go to nvidia.com and click download drivers and find your card and correct operating system. install reboot and your all set to go.

Install It From www.windowsupdate.com or Download the driver from nvidia website
I find it strange you had to ';downgrade'; your driver, do you mean you had to change the settings in the game? or has the game changed your pc screen resolution to a lower setting, if so...XP: right click your screen select properties and then settings, and slide the bar to the right all the way Vista: Right click, personalise then display settings and the slider again.

How to know if a video card is compatible with my motherboard?

I finally have enough money to change my stupid 8400 GS card.

I have a BIOSTAR P4M900-M7 FE motherboard. Are the nVidia 8800 GT or ATI HD4850 compatible with it?

It has a PCI-E 16x slot, but I'm not sure if that is enough. You tell me :PHow to know if a video card is compatible with my motherboard?
    It is compatible.

Happy Gaming! How to know if a video card is compatible with my motherboard?
Yes either card will install and run fine. The HD 4850 would be the best choice. It is about the same perfromance - slightly better on less wattage and less cost.

    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?
Yes, it is compatible. the problem may not be with the motherboard but in your power supply, does it have enough wattage to power new types of video adapters known to be power hungry? you may need a 500 Watt PSU if you have normal setup like 1 Hard Disk, 1 DVD/CD player, I video card, , modem, fans etc. and instead of HD 4850 why not go to HD 5770 1GB? they are about the same price!
Yes. Thats enough. Both the cards will work.

But go for GTS 250 instead of 8800 GT and 5770 instead of 4850 by increasing your budget a little.

How to buy a video card?

I just brought a new computer but the graphics isn't even good enough to play Warhammer: Mark Of Chaos! The graphics is intergrated so can I still buy a video card for this? And I went to go look at some video cards and there is so many choices that I don't have a clue where to start! Time has really changed in 5 years. Anyways I'm going to call HP tomorrow and I was wondering... What information should I ask HP for so I'll know how to buy a video card on my own?How to buy a video card?
If the graphic card is integrated , by my knowledge , YES! , you can add a video card.

First of all , see if your motherboard supports PCI Express X16 cards , but , by guessing , I think it uses the AGP technology. Even if it supports PCI-E , it works at 4x , so no good . I suggest buying ATI Radeon 2600 XT , one of the best AGP cards I know. How to buy a video card?
You need to know whether your motherboard has a PCI-Express graphics card slot, and how many, along with what wattage your power supply can deliver. You can find that yourself with some hunting, but if you're calling the manufacturer anyway you may as well save yourself the trouble. If you still want to, you can just open up your computer, power supply should be a cube-ish metal box on the top in the rear, though some cases are different, and the wattage will be on the sticker, but finding the motherboard specs can be a pain if you don't know what you're looking for to actually count the slots.

Also, make sure you have enough cooling for a high-end card, there's reallly no guideline for that though.

Once you know what you can take, I'd recommend an NVidia card over ATX, their drivers tend to work better.
First of all, check to make sure that you can disable the integrated video on your motherboard and that you have the capability of adding a graphics card.

Then you need to know what the physical connection type is. It will be AGP or PCI-Express. They are specific graphic card connector types. If you don't have those, you have to use a regular PCI card (often found on crappy Dell computers - now you know why they're cheap).

There are plenty of mail order companies to order your card from. HP will be expensive.

What computer / motherboard do you have?
