How should I go about unstalling old video drivers and installing new ones?

Hello

My new 8600GT will be here for Monday, but I've heard a lot about the importance of removing your old video drivers before installing your new ones. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I've had a lot of trouble trying to do this correctly over the years:

1. Uninstall the drivers (Mine are Intel onboard), just form Computer%26gt;Uninstall/change programs

2. Install the new video card

3. Download and install the new drivers from Nvidia's site.

Is this correct? How should I go about unstalling old video drivers and installing new ones?
ok, where ever you got your facts, they must have been confused with your question. you have a tricky install, but you dont need to worry about uninstalling drivers. especially when its an intigrated GC. so leave them. just make sure when you install the new gc, that you open up your boot menu through hitting f1,f2,f10 one of these when booting up. it will take you to a blue/gray screen. there should be a boot tab. go to the boot tab via arrow keys and go to graphics card area. make sure you change it to the new gc and then save and close. while you are booting up, make sure you have the gc driver cd in the cd drive. when the computer boots up the resilution will be really bad, it will prompt you to install the drives, select to install from cd just the one time. and let it do its thing. once your done it will ask you to re start comp. do so, then you should be good. just make sure when you start windows back up to check out the cd for other cool softwear it might come with. it might have a temp reading program for your gc. these could help. well i hope i didn't confuse ya too much. gl.How should I go about unstalling old video drivers and installing new ones?
Yup!

Although that works both ways, when you update your video drivers it will just replace the old ones with new ones. Since you are not using your onboard video from what you describe, then yes remove them from the system. Install that new card and download the new drivers. Or go into ';Device Manager'; and disable the onboard video so that it doesn't conflict with your other one.
dont worry about removing the old ones. just pop in ur card and it takes over on board video. once it loads your desktop u may have a different resolution and it will lag if u drag windows or scroll. that is perfectly normal. go to nvidia.com and click download drivers and find your card and correct operating system. install reboot and your all set to go.
