I have a 7 year old computer which i added a kick *** video card?

to, but my processor is to slow. Is it easy and how expensive is it to change one out. Or is it better to get a used computer that is only two years old. All i really use my computer for is to play games with. I have a HP pravilion 540nI have a 7 year old computer which i added a kick *** video card?
i would recommend getting a new computer, but a processor would help. you need to check what kind of processor you have. you can download a program called cpu-z, found on http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php. run it, and then look for package under the first tab. that is your processor type. you can only install that type of processor. depending on what socket it is will decide what kind of processor you can get. For example, you can only use socket 478 cpus if it says 478, LGA 775 if it says that, ect. Since your computer is older, I'm assuming its socket 478. if you play games, i'd recommend maybe a pentium 4, atleast 2GHZ. One of those might go for $40-$60. You can check how to install it on the HP website. find your model and there should be a pdf file for instructions on replacing parts. replacing the processor is fairly easy, but you must be very careful to not bend the pins. it only takes about 10 minutes.I have a 7 year old computer which i added a kick *** video card?
At 7 years old, you are going to be very limited to what processor you can put in it. I would begin looking for something newer.
The newer computer is your best bet.

It is unlikely you can do much for a 7 year old computer to improve performance. It would be far cheaper to buy a new one.
scrap it for a new one!
